About Tamaryn

My first experience with yoga came after rather serious intestinal surgery in 2007 . I started looking for a way to achieve holistic health and yoga resonated with me on every level.  I practised many different styles ranging from Sivananda to Vinyasa Flow and found something unique in all of them but the concept of vinyasa – the unification of breath and movement – completely convinced me. After completing a BA in Print Production and English Literature at the University of Cape Town, I travelled to Rishikesh, India to do a Yoga Alliance Certified Yoga Teacher Training in Hatha Vinyasa style. While in India I also attended an intensive Iyengar yoga workshop with the renowned Bramacharya Rudra Dev. His focus on alignment and dedication to an ancient practice inspired me to continue searching for a style and a teacher who would guide me in my quest to achieve emotional, physical and spiritual balance.

In 2012 I moved from South Africa to Hamburg, Germany and sought out an Ashtanga Yoga teacher authorised by the Pattabhi Jois Institute and the inspiring Inke Shenar is who I found. Since I started practising Ashtanga Yoga Mysore style, my understanding of yoga has completely evolved. Ashtanga yoga is a life-long practice; a process of exploration, discovery, challenge and renewal. In 2013 I started a three-year Ashtanga Yoga apprenticeship with Inke Shenar and Anna Rossow and took my first trip to the Sri K. Pattabhi Jois Research Institute in December 2014 to practice with Sharath R. Jois and try to return as often as possible. I began teaching Ashtanga in 2014 and hope to get the opportunity to guide you a little way along your yoga journey.
